AMBUSH BATTLE COMETS AT FAMILY ARENA SATURDAY

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, MO (December 27, 2018) – The St. Louis Ambush (3-2) host the Kansas City Comets (1-4) this Saturday, December 29 at 7:05 p.m. CT at the Family Arena in St. Charles.

Saturday’s match is the third of three consecutive games between these cross-state and division rivals. The Ambush won the first two, defeating the Comets 6-5 in overtime at the Family Arena on December 16, then winning by the same score on the Comets’ home turf on December 22. Those two games marked the first time in the history of the current Ambush franchise that they have defeated the Comets in back-to-back contests.

Rookie forward Zach Reget has been a key factor in the two wins over Kansas City, contributing four goals and an assist in those two games. Another contributor to the offense in the past two games have been rookie forward Justin Stinson (one goal, two assists). Reget and Stinson, however, aren’t the only reason for the recent victories. Including those two, eleven different Ambush players have scored goals in the first five games, giving the team a balanced attack.

The team’s defense has also been an important factor their recent performance. Goalkeeper Paulo (left) leads the league in save percentage (.783) and is eighth in goals against average (4.86), while defender Axel Duarte (right)  is tied for the league lead in blocked shots with seven.

Despite their recent success against the Comets, the Ambush can't take their Missouri rivals lightly. Kansas City's offense is anchored by Leo Gibson (right), who is tied for the league lead in assists (eight), is tied for fourth in goals (six) and is tied for second in points (14). Four different Comets players are averaging a point per game or better, requiring a sharp defense to keep them contained.

The December 29 game also features the popular annual Kids Bash at no extra charge following the game. For more information, call the Ambush office at 636-447-6363. Following Saturday’s game at the Family Arena, the Ambush finish out 2018 with a New Year’s Eve contest against the first-place Wave in Milwaukee on Monday, December 31 at 3:05 p.m. CT.
