AMBUSH BLOW LEAD, LOSE TO MUSTANGS

St. Charles, MO – Despite having a three goal lead with under nine minutes left in regulation play, the St. Louis Ambush suffered a frustrating 9-8 overtime loss to the Chicago Mustangs Friday night at the Family Arena.

All of the Ambush goals came from two players. Forward Odaine Sinclair and midfielder Lucas Almeida each tallied four goals for St. Louis. Miguel Vaca registered four goals for Chicago, including the overtime game winner. Other Mustang goals came from Luis Ortega, Wilo Martinez, Adolfo Bofo Bautista, and two from Ricardo Carvalho.

Almeida scored his fourth goal of the night at 2:18 of the fourth quarter to give the Ambush an 8-5 lead. Chicago answered with three consecutive goals to tie the game, which would be decided in the sudden-death overtime period. At 4:44 of the extra period, Ambush goalkeeper Marcelo Moreira was caught out of the goal after making a save, and Vaca was able to capitalize by burying the ball in the back of the net for the game winner.

The win improved Chicago’s record to 12-3 and gave them sole possession of first place in the MASL Central Division. The loss dropped St. Louis’ record to 2-11. Friday’s game was intense and physical. Officials handed out 17 fouls and six penalty minutes to St. Louis, while Chicago collected 10 fouls and 15 penalty minutes. Jesus Flores made 12 saves on 20 save attempts in goal for Chicago. Ambush goalkeeper Moreira made 22 saves in 31 attempts.

The Ambush are back in action Saturday night (January 30) at the Family Arena when they host the Baltimore Blast at 7:05 p.m. Saturday is also “90s Night” with players from the original St. Louis Ambush and the 2000-06 St. Louis Steamers on hand to sign autographs on the concourse from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. At halftime, alumni players will take the pitch once again for an Alumni Game.

Following Saturday’s game, the Ambush will take to the road for two games when they visit the Tacoma Stars on February 5 and the Cedar Rapids Rampage on February 13. The Ambush return home to the Family Arena when they host the Waza Flo on Friday, February 19 at 7:35 p.m.
