AMBUSH COME UP SHORT AGAINST MILWAUKEE SATURDAY, HOST BALTIMORE SUNDAY

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (December 10, 2022) – The St. Louis Ambush came up short against the Milwaukee Wave Saturday night at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The 7-3 final score leaves the Ambush with a 1-2-0 record, while the Wave starts their season at 1-0-0.

Milwaukee got off to a quick start on goals from Ian Bennett and Andre Hayne within the first five minutes of the game. The Ambush answered on a goal by Duduca Carvalho in the eleventh minute to make it 2-1 through the end of the first quarter.

Milwaukee pulled away in the second period when Bennett scored twice less than two minutes apart to give the home team a 4-1 advantage they would carry into the halftime break.

Hayne increased Milwaukee’s lead to 5-1 with his second goal of the contest in the fourth minute of the third stanza. In the fifth minute of the quarter, Kevin Ellis scored for St. Louis on a penalty kick. Wave goalkeeper Augie Rey was able to make two saves before Ellis found the back of the net the third time off his foot. Christian Briggs scored in the ninth minute to make it a 5-3 game, which held through the end of the period.

Milwaukee struck early in the final frame when Marcio Leite beat Ambush goalkeeper Paulo in the second minute on a restart. Rookie Shawn Azcueta scored his first MASL goal in the tenth minute to help the Wave open up a 7-3 lead that they would ride until the final buzzer.

William Banahene mde 11 saves on 13 opportunities (.846 Sv%) in goal for Milwaukee, while Paulo Nascimento saved nine on 16 chances (.546 Sv%) for St. Louis.

The Ambush hurry home as they host Baltimore in a matter of hours. The Blast invade The Family Arena for a 4:05 p.m. CST first kick tomorrow, Sunday, December 11. Duels between these two teams are rare. The Ambush and Blast last met on December 2, 2017 and Sunday’s match is the only one between St. Louis and Baltimore slated for the 2022-23 regular season.
