AMBUSH FACE FLORIDA SATURDAY AT FAMILY ARENA

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, MO (January 2, 2019) – The St. Louis Ambush (3-4) kick off the 2019 calendar year when they host the Florida Tropics (3-3) this Saturday, January 5 at the 7:05 p.m. CT at the Family Arena.

Saturday’s match will be the second of six meetings between these rivals of the MASL South Central Division during the 2018-19 regular season. In the first outing between St. Louis and Florida this season, the Tropics won 9-4 on December 1 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida.

Ambush Head Coach Hewerton will try to steer his club back on a winning path after losing two consecutive games, falling 10-4 to the Kansas City Comets on December 29, then 11-5 to the Milwaukee Wave on December 31.  Florida Head Coach Clay Roberts will try to build on his team’s 9-6 win over Orlando in their most recent contest, which followed a 7-2 loss to Milwaukee on December 22.

The third-place Ambush presently sit one game behind the second-place Tropics in the standings. Two teams from each division make the playoffs and nearly one third of the season has been played, so every game takes on added importance in a tight race. Both these teams have playoff aspirations, so a spirited contest should be expected when the Ambush and Tropics collide on the Family Arena carpet Saturday evening.

After Saturday’s duel with Florida, the Ambush will embark on a road trips to Milwaukee (January 12) and Kansas City (January 18) before returning home to host Utica City FC on Saturday, January 19 at 7:05 p.m. at the Family Arena. For those unable to attend in person, all MASL games are webcast live at masl.tv.
