St. Charles, MO

The Missouri Comets continue to steamroll their Major Arena Soccer League opponents. The St. Louis Ambush became the Comets’ latest victim when they were flattened in a 10-5 match Friday night at the Family Arena. The win improved Missouri’s record to 17-0 and dropped St. Louis to 5-12.

As has been the problem in many of their losses this season, St. Louis kept the game close in the first half and being outplayed in the second half. The contest was tied 1-1 at the end of the opening period and the Comets held a 5-3 lead at halftime. Missouri scored four consecutive goals in the third quarter and outscored St. Louis 5-2 in the second half.

Jeff DiMaria, Kory Dowell, Gordy Gurson, Elvir Kafedzic and Odaine Sinclair provided St. Louis’ five goals. Leo Gibson tallied a hat trick for Missouri while Vahid Assadpour and Alain Matingou scored two goals each. The Comets’ additional goals came from Brian Harris, Bryan Perez and Kiel Williams.

Alan Hagerty made 16 saves on 26 attempts in goal for St. Louis. Missouri goalkeeper Danny Waltman saved 26 in 31 opportunities on the way to his 14th win on the season.

The Ambush will get little rest as they travel to Tulsa to tangle with the Revolution Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the Expo Square Pavilion, where they will return for another battle on Friday, February 20. Following the two matches in Tulsa, the Ambush return home to the Family Arena when they host the Tacoma Stars in the final home game of the season Saturday, February 21 at 7:35 p.m.
