Ambush Host Baltimore in Season Finale

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, MO (February 21, 2017) – The St. Louis Ambush close out the 2016-17 season when they welcome the Baltimore Blast to the Family Arena Sunday, February 26 at 3:05 p.m. CT. The Ambush (1-18) will be looking to complete a challenging season with a win while the Blast (11-6) will be warming up for the postseason. The two teams have clashed once this season, with Baltimore coming away with a 10-1 victory on January 29 at the Royal Farms Arena.

Baltimore has a dangerous offensive unit, with seven different players in double digits in points. The offensive leader for the Blast is forward Tony Donatelli, who leads the team in points (37), assists (19), and is tied with Vini Dantas in goals with 18 each. On defense, Adriano Dos Santos leads the team in blocks with 22. In goal for the Blast, William Vanzela remains one of the best in the MASL. He leads the league in goals against average (3.46), is sixth in save percentage (.698), is tied for third in wins (12), and has one of only two shutouts in the league this season.

Offensively for the Ambush, Victor France leads the team in points (18) and goals (13), while Lucas Almeida leads the team in assists with nine. Four different Ambush players have posted double digits in points. Defensively, Chris Mattingly leads the team and the league in blocks with 48. Goalkeeping has been shared by Casey Clark and Nikola Marojevic, with Clark appearing in 15 of the team’s 19 games played. Clark has a 7.74 goals against average and a .666 save percentage, while Marojevic has a 7.90 GAA and a .681 SVP.

France’s late season surge is particularly interesting. Slowed by injury in the first part of the season, he entered the month of February with only three goals scored and has found the back of the net ten times since then.

The first 1,200 fans in attendance for Sunday’s season finale will receive a free Slobo Ilijevski bobblehead in honor of the late great legendary goalkeeper from the St. Louis Steamers, Storm and Ambush. The Slobo bobblehead promotion is sponsored by Rockwood Bank and MaddockHenson PC, in partnership with the St. Louis Steamers Soccer Club. The doors at the Family Arena will open at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Single game and group tickets are available for the February 26 game. For more information, call the Ambush office at 636-477-6363. Keep up to date with Ambush news by visiting the official website, stlambush.com, the team’s Facebook page and on Twitter and Instagram.
