AMBUSH HOST COMETS IN HOME OPENER SATURDAY

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, Missouri (January 13, 2021) – The St. Louis Ambush welcome the cross-state rival Kansas City Comets to the Family Arena this Saturday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m. CST. Saturday’s contest is the home opener for the Ambush, who started the 2021 season with three games on the road. Both teams have a 1-2 record.

For the Ambush, nine different players have scored in the team’s previous three games, with Ado Jahic, Magui Souza and Tony Walls leading the team with two goals each. Max Ferdinand leads the team and is tied for first in the league in assists with four, while reigning Rookie of the Year Duduca Carvalho has three. Ambush goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento is off to a good start on the young season, ranking second in the league in goals against average (5.33) and in save percentage (.719). Ferdinand and Paulo were also named to the MASL Team of the Week for Week Two of the 2021 season.

Kansas City will be without the services of their player/head coach and primary offensive weapon, Leo Gibson, who will be serving a suspension (subject to appeal) imposed by the MASL for abusive language in a January 10 game between the Comets and the Florida Tropics. In Gibson’s absence, the Comets will look to players like Lucas Sousa (3 goals, 4 assists), Kevin Ellis (3 goals, 2 assists) and others to step up and spark the team offensively. Sousa’s seven points are good for second in the league in that category and he is tied for first in the league in the assists category with four. In goal for the Comets, Nicolau Neto is third in the league in goals against average (6.49) and in save percentage (.661).

After Saturday’s duel, the Ambush continue their January home stand when the Tacoma Stars invade the Family Arena on Sunday, January 24 at 5:05 p.m. CST. The month concludes with two games at the Family Arena against the Florida Tropics, on January 29 and 31. Tickets for upcoming home games are available at the Family Arena box office or online at ticketmaster.com. All Ambush games can also be viewed online at Facebook Live PPV.
