St. Charles, Missouri (February 24, 2021) – The St. Louis Ambush host the San Diego Sockers in a pair of games this weekend. Action gets underway at 7:35 p.m. CST on Friday at the Axius Field at the Family Arena, with the encore slated for 3:05 p.m. CST on Sunday.

St. Louis and San Diego are two cities with a rich heritage in professional arena soccer. St. Louis’ three teams, the Steamers, Storm and Ambush, have brought a combined 32 seasons of exciting action to the St. Louis area. Various incarnations of the Sockers have competed for 43 seasons. With the Ambush and Sockers occupying separate conferences (in normal, non-pandemic seasons) in the Major Arena Soccer League, the two teams infrequently cross paths. The last time the Sockers invaded the Family Arena was over six years ago, so this weekend’s matches offer fans a rare chance to see two storied franchises go head to head.

Friday night will be Retro Night, with the Ambush and Sockers paying tribute to the teams and players that have represented their respective cities, as both teams will wear throwback style jerseys for Friday night’s contest. The Ambush will sport the popular powder-blue Steamers style kits, while the Sockers will wear corresponding retro kits of their own from the era. Alumni players who have played for previous Steamers, Storm and Ambush professional clubs are also invited to attend this game and will be provided with two complimentary tickets per player by emailing

The Ambush come into the weekend with a 4-6 record on the season and presently occupy fifth place in the standings. Hampered by illnesses and injuries in recent games, the team is looking to get back on a winning track. The Sockers come to town at 3-2 and are in third place in the MASL.
