St. Charles, Missouri (January 1, 2021) – The St. Louis Ambush open their 2021 Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) season on the road with a pair of games this weekend. The Ambush journey to Florida, where they will face the Florida Tropics on Saturday, January 2 at 4:05 p.m. CT, with a return engagement slated for Sunday, January 3 at 2:05 p.m. CT.

When the 2019-20 regular season came to an early close in March due to the pandemic, Florida sat atop the Eastern Division with an 18-3 record. The Ambush finished the abbreviated season 9-12.

Both teams have made off-season moves to strengthen their respective positions for the 2021 season. Florida added defender Chad Vandegriffe and powerhouse scorer Ian Bennett to their roster, along with midfielder Kiel Williams. These players join an already potent offense that includes the likes of Ricardo Carvalho, Zach Reget, Victor Parreiras and Guilherme Dos Santos. Between the pipes for the Tropics, goalkeeper Hugo Silva had the MASL’s best goals against average (4.14) last season, while ranking third in save percentage (.712).

The Ambush bolstered their offense in the off-season, signing one of the league’s best play makers, Max Ferdinand, who finished second in the MASL in assists last season. In addition to Ferdinand, the Ambush signed defenders Sam Guernsey, Richard Schmermund and Stefan Mijatovic. The new arrivals join the likes of Tony Walls, JT Thomas and Rookie of the Year Duduca. Goalkeeper Paulo is back to mind the net and is joined by Brett Petricek, giving the Ambush two starting-quality keepers.

After this weekend’s pair of games, the Ambush travel to Dallas to square off with the Sidekicks next Saturday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Ambush home opener is slated for Saturday, January 16, when the Kansas City Comets invade the Family Arena for a 7:05 p.m. CT duel.
