AMBUSH NAME DONNIE ALBERTY DIRECTOR OF SCOUTING

by Jim Fossell

Saint Charles, Missouri (January 19, 2023) – The St. Louis Ambush have announced that Assistant Coach Donnie Alberty has been named Director of Scouting for the organization effective immediately.

Alberty has been a member of the coaching staff since November 2020. He is also the Men’s Soccer Head Coach at Fontbonne University and formerly served in the same role for St. Charles Community College. Alberty has over 25 years’ coaching experience. He also has coached with several clubs in the St. Louis Area and holds a USSF License.

Alberty explained how the new role materialized, saying, “While participating in the MASL combine and the collegiate draft this season, we evaluated and selected six potential players. We were prepared and drafted effectively, but we recognized that we have another avenue to build our roster with that we could provide a little bit more attention and structure to. In discussing it with Jeff and Shelly (Ambush co-owners), they developed this position to correspond with the direction that the league seems to be going and it will allow me to utilize my experience, collegiate contacts and time to expand our reach and scouting efforts. Our vision is that we will be aware of more names, evaluate them for extended periods of time, including while they are still in college and create relationships with players earlier than we traditionally have. In addition, I will be allowed time to focus on the M2 and M3 levels to scout potential players there. This will all be in addition to our annual open tryouts and will create multiple options to build our roster.”

Alberty concluded, “I am very grateful to Shelly and Jeff for this opportunity. My experience with the Ambush has been wonderful and I am excited to take on further responsibilities to contribute to the vision and goals of the franchise, which is to ultimately win a MASL Championship.”

Ambush co-owner, GM and Head Coach Jeff Locker said, “Donnie Alberty summed up the new position perfectly. He has a great eye for talent and we look forward to utilizing his skills in his new role as we continue to develop players who will be the stars of the future.”
