St. Charles, MO (March 1, 2020) – The St. Louis Ambush defeated the Kansas City Comets 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Family Arena. This game advanced the Ambush to 9-11 on the season and dropped the Comets to 8-10.

Starting the game with high energy and dynamic passing, the Ambush finished the first quarter with a 2-1 lead. At 3:11 into the game, Duduca powered a rebound off of goalkeeper Nicolau Neto into the back of the net to bring the Ambush to a 1-0 lead. The Comets later took advantage of a restart opportunity, and Lucas Rodriguez sent a hard driven shot to the upper corner to bring the score to 1-1. In retaliation, Stefan St. Louis pulled Neto into a one-on-one situation and then crossed to Wil Nyamsi for an open goal shot to place the Ambush back into the lead at 2-1.

The second quarter was a battle for possession with neither team advancing on the scoreboard. With a total of 17 shots in the period, both teams showed an impressive effort to block and prevent goals even when at a disadvantage maintaining the tally at 2-1 Ambush.

Coming back after the half, the Ambush advanced to a 3-1 lead when JT Thomas buried a shot just to the right of Neto off of a pass from Lucas Almeida. At 9:24 in the third quarter, Ambush player Jonatan Santos was sent to the penalty box after a blue card was issued for boarding. This marked the third blue card of the game, all to the Ambush, with Paulo receiving the first two warnings earlier in the match.

Both teams picked up momentum in the fourth quarter advancing the score to 5-4 in favor of the Ambush. After 1:13, the Comets narrowed the gap to 3-2 when Robert Palmer scored from within the box. Shortly after, JT Thomas executed a shot with the assist from Mike Scharf to pull away at a 4-2 lead. Mirko Sandivari responded by ricocheting the ball off of the glass and the inside of the goal post to bring the Comets closer at a 4-3 tally. Closing the gap entirely at 4-4, Lucas Rodriguez placed a low shot into the bottom right of the goal. The Ambush took back control of the lead when Santos bested the goalkeeper off of a rolling assist from Paulo to finalize the game at 5-4.
