St. Charles, MO (May 14, 2019) – The St. Louis Ambush have signed local product Mike Scharf to a two-year contract, Ambush co-owner and CEO Shelly Clark announced today. Per league and team policies, no further details were announced.

Scharf’s MASL career began with the Cedar Rapids Rampage, where he earned a roster spot late in the 2017-18 season. Scharf started the 2018-19 season with the Tacoma Stars, appearing in two games before he was traded to the Ambush on February 21, 2019. In five appearances with the Ambush, the defender posted two points and blocked four opposing shots. Clark said, “Acquiring Mike in February was a great opportunity for the Ambush to bring home this St Louis native. He knows this community, he grew up here and he's already ingraining himself in the community as an Ambush player. We are looking forward to watching  Mike continue to sharpen his skills as part of the Ambush family for the next two years.”

Scharf is happy to play for the home team. He said, “It’s great to have the opportunity to represent my hometown again. I am looking forward to building on what we did last season. We have a great organization and great fans, and we are ready to push for a championship.”

Scharf grew up in Wildwood and played prep soccer at Lafayette High School. His college career was split between Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, Maryville University in St. Louis and Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. He was team captain at Maryville and his Missouri S&T team reached the national rank of 16 in the NCAA Division II.

Scharf’s other soccer experience includes time with the Southwest Florida Adrenaline (PDL),  Kitsap SC Pumas (NPSL) and Nordvärmlands FF (Swedish Division 2) last fall. At Kitsap, Scharf served as team captain and helped the team finish first in the Northwest Division and move on to the West Region Semi-Finals.

Ambush season tickets are now on sale for their 2019-20 season, which kicks off this fall. Keep up to date with all Ambush news by following the team on their official website, stlambush.com and on Facebook and Twitter.
