AMBUSH START SEASON WITH FLORIDA ROAD TRIP

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, MO (November 28, 2018) – The St. Louis Ambush escape the frigid St. Louis winter when they journey to the Sunshine State for a two-game road trip to kick off the 2018-19 Major Arena Soccer League season. The first stop on their Florida trek is Orlando, where the Ambush will collide with the Orlando SeaWolves Friday evening at 6:35 p.m. CST. The second destination is Lakeland, where the Florida Tropics will host the Ambush Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CST.

The Ambush will see a lot of familiar faces in Orlando, as six members of the SeaWolves roster (midfielders Victor France and Gordy Gurson, defenders Dylan Hundelt, Luiz Mota and Richard Schmermund and goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa) formerly occupied a spot with the Ambush. The SeaWolves moved to Orlando from Cedar Rapids over the summer and Ambush player and Head Coach Hewerton Moreira once filled those same roles for the Rampage and Ambush defender Rob Acosta played with Cedar Rapids before coming to St. Louis. All of the aforementioned are competitive professionals who will no doubt want to make a good showing against their former teammates, providing the formula for a spirited match when they hit the carpet at the Silver Spurs Arena Friday night.

Two former members of the Ambush will be among the Tropics players greeting the visitors Saturday night at the RP Funding Center. Forward Freddy Moojen and midfielder Anthony Arico both played previously for St. Louis and now wear the Tropics’ colors.

Another aspect that will add to the intensity and importance of this weekend’s games is the fact that the Ambush and both Florida teams are part of the same division, the MASL South Central Division, for the first time ever. All games within the division, whether early in the season or late, affect each team’s chances of making the playoffs.

Following this weekend’s games, the Ambush play one more on the road before coming home to the Family Arena. On Saturday, December 8, the Ambush travel to Harrisburg to square off with the Heat at 6:05 p.m. CST at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Arena. The Ambush home opener is slated for Sunday, December 16 at 3:05 p.m. CST at the Family Arena.
