AMBUSH VISIT THE LONE STAR STATE SATURDAY

by Jim Fossell

St. Charles, Missouri (December 3, 2021) – The St. Louis Ambush (0-2) journey to Texas when they square off with the Dallas Sidekicks (0-0) at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CST.

The Ambush will be looking for their first win after opening their season with a pair of losses to the Kansas City Comets last weekend. The Sidekicks will aim for a good start to their season as Saturday’s match is their home opener. The Ambush and Sidekicks met twice last season, with the Ambush winning both games.

The Ambush find themselves scrambling to keep the goalkeeping position filled. Paulo Nascimento is out for the season due to a torn ACL. Rafael Dias is dealing with visa issues that both he and the team are working to resolve. Sway Mazon, who played in the first two games, will be sitting out Saturday’s match due to a one-game suspension because of penalty accumulation in the November 27 game. To help fill the gap, the team signed Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes ahead of the trip to Texas. (Per league and team policies, no details of the contract were disclosed.)

Cortes comes to the Ambush with one season of MASL experience. He appeared in 20 games with the Mesquite Outlaws during the 2019-20 season, compiling a 5.50 goals against average and .682 save percentage. Cortes has also played with the North Texas Soccer Club (USL League 1), was signed by FC Dallas in 2017 and had a stint with Saint Louis FC (USL) in 2016. Prior to turning pro, Cortes played collegiate soccer at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and club soccer with the FC Dallas Academy.

Following Saturday’s duel in Dallas, the Ambush return home to The Family Arena to host the Milwaukee Wave Sunday, December 19 at 4:05 p.m. CST. Tickets are available at the Family Arena box office and at ticketmaster.com.
