COMETS TOP AMBUSH 7-3

Independence, MO (December 19, 2020) – The St. Louis Ambush lost 7-3 to the Kansas City Comets in the preseason Central Cup Tournament Saturday evening at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.

Many games between these cross-state Missouri rivals are lively affairs and Saturday’s contest was no different. Officials pulled the blue card out of their pockets a total of nine times, four against the Comets and five against the Ambush.

St. Louis did all their scoring in the first three quarters on goals from Stefan Mijatovic, Duduca Carvalho and Max Ferdinand. Ferdinand participated in all three tallies, as he assisted on the goals from Mijatovic and Duduca. Paulo played 41:35 in goal for St. Louis, with eight saves in 10 save opportunities (.800 save percentage). Brett Petricek played between the pipes 13:42 for the Ambush, saving eight on 12 chances (.667 save percentage).

Kevin Ellis and Adam James led the offense for Kansas City with two goals each while Leo Gibson, Mirko Sandivari and Hector Solorio each posted a goal. Mark Saxby played 31:26 in goal, stopping 11 Ambush shots in 13 opportunities (.846 save percentage). Lou Misner spent 28:34 guarding the net, stopping four of five shots faced (.800 save percentage). Kansas City outshot St. Louis 45-30.

The Ambush face a quick turnaround as their next match is just hours away when they host the Dallas Sidekicks tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 p.m. CT at the Family Arena. Sunday’s duel is the final preseason game for the Ambush. All Central Cup games are also available for online viewing via Facebook Pay-Per-View. Sunday’s game also features the St. Charles County Youth Soccer Association (SCCYSA) Weekend of Champions awards, wherein youth teams will be presented awards on the Family Arena turf starting at 10:00 a.m.
