St. Louis Ambush goalkeeper Greg Crook and defender Chris Mattingly have been named to the Major Arena Soccer League’s Team of the Week for week ten of the 2014-15 season.

In his first full season with the Ambush, Crook has earned accolades for his performance in goal. He currently ranks fifth in the league in saves (141) and in save percentage (.734) when compared to goalkeepers who have played in as many or more games. In two games during week ten, Crook allowed five goals while making 16 saves in a narrow loss to the Chicago Mustangs on December 27, then allowed only three goals while making 19 saves in a win the next night against the San Diego Sockers.

Greg hails from Columbia, Illinois, where he played high school soccer at Columbia High. Crook’s collegiate career was spent at SIU-Edwardsville. Prior to joining the Ambush in the last half of the 2013-14 season, Greg played professionally for the St. Louis Illusion (2008-09) and Illinois Piasa (2010-13).

Defender and Team Captain Chris Mattingly’s 15 blocks ranks him second on the team and tied for third in the league in that category. He has also contributed to the Ambush offense with a goal and an assist, and has accumulated only two fouls in eight games played. Mattingly blocked four shots in the December 27 contest in Chicago, then contributed another six in the December 28 victory over San Diego.

Chris is a St. Louis native who played prep soccer at Chaminade before his collegiate career at Drury University. Prior to joining the Ambush last season, Mattingly played one season for the St. Louis Illusion and three seasons with the Illinois Piasa.

The Ambush are back in action this Saturday, January 3, when they host the undefeated Missouri Comets at 7:35 p.m. at the Family Arena. Saturday’s game will be the ESPN3 MASL Game of the Week.
