GURSON NAMED TO MASL TEAM OF THE WEEK, ARICO EARNS HONORABLE MENTION

St. Louis Ambush forward Gordy Gurson has been named to the Major Arena Soccer League’s Team of the Week for week eight of the 2015-16 season. Gurson tallied three goals in St. Louis’ 6-5 overtime loss to the Tacoma Stars on December 12. He leads the Ambush in goals (9) and points (10). The 2014-15 MASL Rookie of the Year is in his second season with the Ambush. He was a member of the US team that won the WMF Arena Soccer World Cup Championship. In that tournament, Gurson registered two goals and three assists in six appearances.

Ambush midfielder Anthony Arico was named to the “honorable mention” list by the league for his performance. Arico contributed a goal and an assist in the December 12 contest. He has compiled two goals, one assist and two blocks thus far this season. Arico is in his second season with the Ambush. He was acquired in a trade from the Milwaukee Wave on February 1.

Goalkeeper: Juan Gamboa, Dallas Sidekicks: Recorded 28 saves on 35 shots in 9-7 win over the San Diego Sockers.

Defender: Adriano Dos Santos, Baltimore Blast: Recorded 1 goal and 1 assist in 5-3 win over the Syracuse Silver Knights helping the Blast to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Defender: Robert Palmer, Missouri Comets: Scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in victory over the Tacoma Stars.

Midfielder: Jamael Cox, Tacoma Stars: Scored the game-winner in overtime against St. Louis after scoring two goals and two assists the night before against the Missouri Comets.

Forward or Midfielder: Gordy Gurson, St. Louis Ambush: Scored 3 goals in overtime loss to the visiting Tacoma Stars.

Forward: Arthur Ivo, Dallas Sidekicks: Recorded 3 goals, including the game-winner in the Sidekicks 9-7 victory over the San Diego Sockers.

Special Honorable Mention: Forward: Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista, Chicago Mustangs: Scored two goals in his first game in the MASL helping the Mustangs to 8-3 victory over the Milwaukee Wave. Chicago recorded their highest home attendance this season featuring his debut in the league.

Honorable Mention: GK-Danny Waltman (Tacoma Stars), GK- Jesus Flores (Chicago Mustangs), D-Damian Garcia (Soles De Sonora), D-Chile Farias (Cedar Rapids Rampage), D-Brian Harris (Missouri Comets), M- Sean Totsch (Milwaukee Wave), M-Anthony Arico (St. Louis Ambush), F-Franck Tayou (Soles De Sonora), F-Leo Gibson (Missouri Comets), F- Taylor Bond (Chicago Mustangs)

Gurson, Arico and the Ambush take to the road this week when they clash with the Cedar Rapids Rampage at US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this Saturday, December 19 at 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s contest will be the first as Head Coach for Tony Glavin, who was named to that position on Monday. The Ambush return home to the Family Arena on Sunday, December 27 at 5:35 p.m. when they host the Milwaukee Wave.
