Monterrey, Mexico (January 5, 2020) – The Monterrey Flash remained the only unbeaten team in the Major Arena Soccer League when they defeated the St. Louis Ambush 15-6 Sunday evening in Monterrey, Mexico. The loss dropped the Ambush to 3-5 while the powerhouse Flash improved their undefeated record to 7-0.

Monterrey blanked the Ambush 3-0 in the first quarter on goals by Brayan Aguilar, Hugo Puentes and Damian Garcia. It was more of the same in the second quarter, when Eduardo Garay found the back of the net just eight seconds into the period. The Ambush got a man advantage when Edgar Flores was sent to the penalty box for holding and JT Thomas made good on the power play with a well placed high shot to reduce Monterrey’s lead to 4-1. Monterrey ran up the lead to 7-1 on goals by Miguel Vaca, Flores, and Damian Garcia’s second of the contest before Thomas answered for the Ambush with his second to make the score 7-2 heading into halftime.

Monterrey started the third period by increasing their lead to 9-2 thanks to goals by Aguilar and Marco Antonio Tovar. Corey Adamson answered for the Ambush to make the score 9-3. Aguilar would score his third and fourth goals of the contest before the third quarter ended, giving the Flash an 11-3 lead heading into the final frame.

The Ambush got the first goal of the fourth quarter when a Tony Walls shot hit the crossbar and went into the goal, but Monterrey answered less than a minute later when Jorge Rios made the score 12-4. The back and forth continued when Mike Scharf scored for St. Louis in the sixth minute of the period. Adamson posted his second goal of the match to make the score 12-6. The Flash weren’t done yet, as Garcia and Aguilar both scored less than a minute apart to give the home team a 14-6 lead. With ten seconds remaining, Puentes scored his second for a final score of 15-6.

The Ambush went to Mexico on the heels of a three-game winning streak and lost both games, falling to Sonora 12-7 on Friday and Monterrey 15-6 on Sunday. The team must now regroup and figure out how to deal with another strong team, the Milwaukee Wave, who they face Sunday, January 12 at 1:07 p.m. CST at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The next Ambush home game is slated for Friday, January 17, when Utica City FC visits the Family Arena for a 7:35 p.m. CST match.
