Prospects Impress at Open Tryouts

Over forty players from several states and countries gave their all to impress St. Louis Ambush coaches and staff during the team’s open tryouts Saturday and Sunday at Vetta Sports St. Charles.

Participants hopeful of securing a spot on the Ambush roster went through two days of drills and scrimmages under the guidance of Head Coach Hewerton. This was the first open tryouts conducted in St. Louis by Hewerton, who joined the club as Head Coach last month. He was assisted by former Milwaukee Wave and Cedar Rapids Rampage goalkeeper coach Mark Litton, former Rampage assistant coach Tony Shelby, and Ambush assistant coach and goalkeeper coach Jamie Swanner. Hewerton was impressed by what he saw. “The coaching staff and myself were extremely impressed with the talent level from the players this weekend. I am looking forward to bringing a few of them to training camp in order to start to work on our pattern of play,” he said. Tryout players who will be invited will join current players when the team opens training camp the second week of October.

Ambush CEO and majority owner Shelly Clark liked what she saw from her new Head Coach. “Hewerton’s actions this weekend further demonstrate he’s ready to get to work. He didn’t just observe, he got right to work and started coaching and educating the players. He’s setting the bar high and we are excited to see where that takes us this coming season,” Clark said.
