St. Peters, MO — A talented group of 49 players came from as far away as California to participate in St. Louis Ambush open tryouts Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11 at Vetta Sports in St. Peters. While a solid contingent of local talent showed up, players from several states including California, Minnesota and West Virginia were represented.

Overall, the talent represented was impressive. Head Coach Tony Glavin said he was “pleasantly surprised” by the level of talent and fitness on display. “We’ve seen a good standard of play and I think we can pick up six or eight players who will be invited to training camp and see if they can advance to the next level,” he said.  General Manager for Business Operations Brian Roth said this year’s group is “the most talented we’ve seen in the four years we’ve held tryouts.”

Head Coach Tony Glavin and Assistant Coach Jamie Swanner put the participants through drills and games during the two-day session. A number of current Ambush players including Chris Mattingly, Stefan St. Louis, Cody Costakis, Greg Kranz, Richard Schmermund, Ross MacGregor and Lucas Almeida took to the pitch to help put the prospects through their paces.

The Ambush kick off the 2016-17 season at the Family Arena on November 19. They will play ten home games and ten on the road as members of the Major Arena Soccer League.
